Artist Statement

"I have a wandering empathy for the imaginary lives of strangers.”

Scattered throughout the hustle and bustle of concrete life, like pools among the rocks, are the parks and squares that provide us with a place to breathe and a time to think. It is a fundamental need of a sane society to be able to stop once in a while and wander from the routine, lift our heads and look at the sky or take in our regular surroundings with a fresh insight.

Henry's work begins with snapshots of people and by a process of elimination he refocuses the image on elements that celebrate life and encapsulate a sober thoughtfulness.

Henry was born 1978 in Norwich, England and spent his childhood in the Suffolk countryside. He studied art at Ipswich College and then Loughborough University. From 2001 until 2011 Henry worked for the Curwen Gallery (London W1) helping to run a business art consultancy and two contemporary art galleries. He was involved in the organisation and curation of exhibitions (specifically the annual Northern Graduates show), art handling and the look and design of the company's promotional material and website. He was also involved in setting up The Rectory Gallery in Spitalfields, East London in 2009.

In Spring 2011 Henry and his family moved from London to the High Peak in Derbyshire.

Artwork by Henry Walsh is regularly exhibited and collected in London, USA, Sweden & Italy (Kathryn Bell - Fine Art Consultancy), Southwest England (Wychwood Art) and Wales (The Albany Gallery)
