Artist Statement
I have always expressed myself through drawing. In the 60s I trained in illustration and printmaking at Manchester, and after graduating I lectured at Stockport College of Art. I then joined Granada TV as a designer, and in the 80s I set up my own Independent Production company LEGS, specialising in iIlustration, model making and animatronics. In the 90s I designed and developed new media for ITV and other clients. More recently I directed productions with Cosgrove Hall, and I continue to Illustrate and story board for several clients.I use a sketch book as a recording and idea development tool, and I continue to do this now to create pictures just for me.
In my own work I have gone back to basic disciplines, focusing on natural form and landscapes around Hayfield in the Peak District, using the Ipad and my sketchbooks.
I’m excited by the layers of texture, patterns of nature, and the constant morphing and movement created by the elements in landscape and organic form. My work is spontaneous, working in pencil, charcoal and pen, with watercolour and inks.
Our studio and our home is in Little Hayfield
We have lived at Throstle Farm for the past 37 years, which I share with my wife, Pat Evans, who is also an artist.
Throstle Farm is one of the group venues for Hayfield Artists.
We are proud to be part of The Derbyshire Open Arts.
It gives us the opportunity to showcase our work and open our studios to see original Art - Paintings, Drawings, Ceramics, Jewellery and Photography.
You are welcome to come up to Throstle to meet us and look around, - just drive up and park easily.
