Artists Statement
There are many borders, frames of place, identity, sexuality and gender, all relating to the self. These restraints do not consider the vast area beyond; the vast scales which comprise an expanse of space, time, vacuum, knowledge, power, force and nature. Indirect, humble, earthy relevance stands quietly in the shadows of man's hubris. It silently screams in a cacophony of protest. However, artists have been invoking these spirits for the past century; 21st-century art movements paid homage to new-materialist concepts with a deep reverence for material in and of itself. Abstract expressionism, minimalism, post-modernism and meta-modernism all nod to the mythical realms held in the heart of matter itself.
Jannetta picks up this baton as an anti-hero with deference to Mother Nature and an obstinate refusal to be categorised. With no brand identity, she protests commodification. Her art speaks through the materials used with a much broader view than a single form of expression or style. The medium becomes an investigative material making connections that explore and create rhyzomic links between the felt, bewilderment and the assumed - ultimately reconfiguring the fabric of life to include the vitality of matter.
