Artist Statement
Alison Vasey is based in New Mills. She is fascinated by the changing light and atmosphere over land and seascapes. She is interested in how these transient effects and the emotion evoked can be captured in paint and communicated to the viewer. This fascination has grown from her love of the outdoors. She works en plein air, and in her studio, using sketches and photographs as references along with memory of the moment to inform her work. She gains inspiration from her local surroundings in the Peak District, but favourite locations also include Norfolk, Cornwall and the Scottish Highlands.
Alison paints predominantly in oil, but also uses watercolour and ink. She is largely self-taught, and has studied oil painting with the Norfolk Painting School and the St Ives School of Painting in Cornwall. She is a member of High Peak Artists and exhibits at Gallery In The Gardens in the Buxton Pavilion Gardens.
