Artist Statement

My stained glass pieces aim to translate my client's ideas, into a colourful representation of whatever the recipient holds dear, this might include hobbies, places they have visited or special occasions. For every detailed piece, coloured glass is chosen, individually cut, ground and wrapped in copper foil before being soldered and finished, sometimes incorporating wirework, beads or framed in wood or zinc to be displayed and enjoyed in the home or garden. The traditional method of using lead came and cement is sometimes employed for larger pieces with gentle curves or lines.

With a background in learning and development and personal coaching, I have a strong belief in continuous development which leads me to challenge myself within my work, building up an extensive portfolio of varied stained glass projects. I also feel privileged to be able to share my love of stained glass with others during my small group workshops.

My projects have included sun catchers, art panels, windows, garden stakes and garden sculptures, boxes, ornaments, pet portraits, children's artwork, lanterns, candle holders and mirrors as well as a small number of repairs and alterations to doors, cabinets and ornaments. My most joyful project was a glass and wood sculpture for a local Infants school leading to a further commission to replicate 3 of the children's wonderful artworks into stained glass art panels. The look on their faces when they saw them was priceless.

Each and every piece I create has its own special back story, whether it has been commissioned as a present or keepsake for a loved one, a birth, a memorial of someone missed, or a retirement gift for a colleague or a decorative piece for a new home and it is these stories that shape my finished artwork to be treasured for the memories they evoke.
