Artist Statement
I’m a professionally trained artist, situated on the edge of the Peak District.I paint semi abstract, impressionistic landscapes, seascapes and atmospheric cloudscapes in oils. I like to walk, sketch, paint and take photographs, recording what I see and feel.
I use a variety of materials in my sketchbooks and most studies are quick sketches used as a starting point for painting back at my studio. I am spending more time painting en plein air in oils these days and loving it. I use a variety of tools, building up layers with brushes, palette knives, sticks and rags in my paintings.
I try to catch something of the beauty, light, colour, and raw energy of a place, as well as the feeling it evokes and how we emotionally connect to our natural environment. I hope others recognise some of that energy and connection in my work.
