Artist Statement

Working primarily in oil and cold wax medium or with acrylics, my semi-abstract compositions chart my exploration of subjects and imagery inspired by the local landscape, natural forms and Still-life arrangements.
Riotous colour combinations, multiple layers and richly textured surfaces are used to achieve vibrant paintings and monoprints that are rich in detail.
Working from my home-based studio in Matlock, I find that a love of colour prevades throughout my work, in spite of my attempts to restrict my pallet. Hence I let the painted surface lead me, as I experiment, build upon and refine my compositions.
