Helen Brocklehurst

Location: High Peak   /  Genre: Ceramics, paintings and patchwork.

Artist Statement

Originally I worked in printed textile design.
Then I became a Derbyshire watercolour landscape painter and started to do pottery.
My love of ceramics has grown over the years, often combining glass.
The inspiration for my work is shape and pattern in nature. I work in stoneware and have been creating flowers and wildlife objects for the garden including planters for succulents.
To combine my love of landscapes with ceramics, I am now making wall plaques and bowls.
The glaze, like watercolour, is a bit unpredictable and creates interesting surprises.

After focusing on ceramics for the past few years, I have started to paint again whilst on holiday, often seascapes.

In 2019, I was physically unable to do much, so made hand stitched patchwork cushion covers, enjoying colour and pattern.
These and the holiday paintings will be shown for the first time at Derbyshire Open Arts 2023.
