Artist Statement

Internationally acclaimed for his stunning images, photographer, printer and author Dave Butcher, trained during 21 years with leading photographic supplier Ilford Photo, and uses his fifty years of experience and knowledge of traditional film and darkroom skills to produce breathtaking, atmospheric photographs and prints.
Working exclusively with film Dave produces stunning landscapes, cityscapes and skiing images. He chooses black and white for its unrivalled power to convey drama and atmosphere. His work is often described as “moving” and “inspirational” and covers massive scale or tiny detail in both natural and man-made environments.
During Derbyshire Open Arts 2023 Dave will be selling a huge selection of original handmade fine art mounted prints, all ready to be dropped into a suitably sized frame. The usual prices for these range from £85 to £300 but they will be available for £5 to £30 in sizes from 20x20cm to 70x70cm and 100x50cm. Frames will also be available to buy separately. This is a clearance sale of the prints that we used to sell at shows and exhibitions in England, Scotland and the USA.
A range of high quality poster prints will also be available in sizes from 50x50cm to 70x50cm and 70x70cm for £10.
Dave Butcher has also had 6 books published featuring his photographs and photographic hints and tips and the 3 current books, City Light, Snow Light and Land Light, will be available at the lowest ever price of £5 each instead of £15.
Dave is no longer able to run landscape photography courses and darkroom workshops, due to poor health, but has produced lots of illustrated articles and videos, freely available, on www.darkroomdave.com and his YouTube channel @DarkroomDave.
