Artist Statement

Pam graduated with a BA Hons in Graphic Design and two prestigious awards from the Royal Society of Arts and embarked upon a career as a Graphic Designer at the John Lewis Partnership in London. After receiving a travel bursary Pam set out on a seven month journey of discovery around India where her love of colour and pattern was indulged and saturated. After her travels she qualified as a specialist teacher of Art and Design and taught in secondary schools for twenty four years, finishing her career as Head of Art at Chapel-en-le-Frith High School in Derbyshire.

Pam is now a full time artist working from her studio in Buxton, a town with a rich architectural heritage, which has provided a source of inspiration for many of her paintings. Further afield her love of travelling and exploring new places has provided a ‘melting pot’ of ideas and styles from which she can conjure up her own colourful designs. She combines abstracted elements and decorative architectural patterns with a striking colour palette. Drawing plays an important part in the development of the work: working in a sketchbook, Pam creates quick sketches in situ and records details which can later be referred to when working in the studio.

Pam is a member of two professional art groups and has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally. She currently has a collection of original paintings in an exhibition touring in Germany, France and Belgium. As well as awards for the Buxton Spa Prize, Pam’s work has been selected for the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours at The Mall Galleries in London.
