Artist Statement

The Creative Pottery studio is run by me, Lee Waterman. I am a local potter with over 40 years’ experience in teaching and creating pottery. Over the years my work has taken me in many different directions. I like the way in which the materials and techniques of pottery-making can be used in so many different ways and love experimenting with both form and glazes.
I create a variety of pottery for sale including thrown and hand-built pieces from everyday designs to collectable fine arts. I enjoy making specialist commissions as this can help the customer to get involved in the production and design. Currently my work is fired in an electric kiln using fuel supplied by an ecologically minded company. I like to use as much recycled material content in my clay and glaze making as I can, as looking after the earth for me is as important as working with it.
At the studio I also teach classes to suit people of all ages, abilities and walks of life. I offer creative, fun, unique lessons on a one-to-one or small group basis and enjoy helping others to find their creative selves.
Being creative and encouraging others is for me part of the new age where so many people are turning away from the mass produced and celebrating being part of the community of makers. Being thoughtful and unique in our approaches to work helps us all to grow as human beings and there may be much more in a handmade pot than meets the eye.
