Karin Sheldon

Location: Ilam, Ashbourne   /  Genre: Jewellery and small silversmithing

Artist Statement

Karin’s passion for making is fired by years of learning ancient and wonderful techniques from global cultures. Using such traditional techniques from various cultures, she reflects memories and visual inspirations.

The Peak District landscape provides a strong influence but not exclusively. She uses the power and movement of water rushing through rocks or meandering it’s way through the countryside or round the her beloved North East coastline, to inspire her ‘GeoAqua’ Collection - forging the precious metals and forming designs which include precious and semi-precious stones.

Karin’s signature collection has remained though - the ‘Scribble’ collection of jewellery which is universally easy to wear for every day or dressing up for best.

Karin also makes small items of silverware using the same techniques and inspirations. Her lockdown inspiration has taken the form of a box entitled ‘Glacier’. It embodies the ingenuity of the human race.

Special commissions, including reworking inherited or old jewellery, are welcomed.
