Artist Statement
Iam an award-winning experienced jeweller and goldsmith. My work explores a variety of techniques, resulting in simply, beautiful unique handcrafted pieces.
I make rings, bangles, necklaces, pendants and spoons using a variety of techniques and inspiration.
I take my influences from nature, surface pattern and classical designs. This in turn leads me to produce a variety of pieces some more experimental than others. One example is my silvered range with the resulting effect determined by the cooling action of the silver. Within this concept, I utilize the unique properties in metal to produce an effect where the silver is sunk into the copper
There are more classical traditional pieces using granulation techniques to add complementary gold detail to pieces.
Fluidity is a feeling imparted to pieces in which the silver is twisted like silk in order to produce bangles that are flexible substantial and light.
Some of the pieces are made to include Blue John, a stone that can only be found in Derbyshire, and the pieces designed with the surrounding metal reflecting the stone itself.
Other pieces are made using intricate plats and twinned with other metals including copper and gold.
Everything I make is handcrafted, as the metal is melted down the raw metal is then shaped accordingly into the fantastic jewellery on exhibit.
All my pieces are a pleasure to wear and as always I am open to commissions to make that extra special piece.
I have exhibited at, Belmont Arts, Craftsmen in the Gallery, D.O.A, Goldsmiths Hall, Whitby folk and Wirksworth international arts festival.
I hope to see you at Throstle farm, where I will be exhibiting with other members of Hayfield artists, including Lydon and Pat who are mixed media painters, Maria a ceramicist and Peter a photographer.
