Artist Statement
My Mosaics take inspiration from the hills and dales that surround me and utilise vintage damaged and unwanted crockery - a process called ‘Picassiette”. I hope, by using this technique, to reinvent the beauty of these items and preserve the designs and patterns. Each placed piece acts like a brushstroke, and is carefully positioned to create depth, form and texture. As a photography graduate, I am continually capturing moments and happenings within nature and these images are often used as a springboard for my mosaic works. Equally a particular pattern or piece of pottery can lead an idea and form a focal point within the final piece.
I am often commissioned to create celebratory, commemorative and commercial mosaic pieces and can run workshops in mosaics and a range of other art forms in schools and within the wider community.
