Artist Statement

Peak Gate Textiles is the business and weaving the passion of Sue Russell. An exhibition at Stirling Castle explained that tapestries are woven and from this point I knew that I had to learn to weave. This has lead to a degree in Textile Design from the University of Derby and several collections of woven art pieces. I have also written a book to help new weavers get started and will be running weaving workshops. I use waste yarns and materials for most of my weaving, this extends to the inclusion of baler twine on a regular basis and I take inspiration from the rich heritage and landscapes found in Derbyshire.
